Stanley and his twin brother Vincent were born in 1906 in Oxford the youngest of seven sons and one daughter of James and Mary Jane Allen. In 1911 the family were living in St Clements Oxford and later moved to Headington. Stanley married Lilian F Simonson in Headington in 1930.
He served as a Gunner 1780449 with No 88 Heavy Anti Aircraft Regt Royal Artillery. This was a TA unit that formed in September 1939 and served at home, especially in defence of London, until 1941, when they were sent to Egypt.
They served in the 8th Army in North Africa and then on the invasion of Sicily and upwards into Italy. The unit was put into suspension in late 1944 when they had been virtually wiped out in the battles around Florence.
Stanley was killed on 8th September 1944 and he is buried in Florence War Cemetery Italy. He is remembered in Thame on the Memorial Board in St Mary’s Church
